P.S. this trip marked my 5th Wonder of Oregon, only 2 more to go!
Being thrown into the hectic fire that is law school can be a bit overwhelming. That's why a few weeks into school, a few of us started to get a little crazy and were itching to get out of town. We decided to go camping atCrater Lake since most of us had never been. The whole trip was about 24 hours, just long enough that we got to run around and do everything we wanted to do, but short enough not drive each other crazy.
We camped at the Mazama Campground, the closest campground from the rim. Once we set up the campsite, we drove back towards the the lake to go swimming. While the lake is HUGE, the only safe way down is by taking the Cleetwood Cove Trail. It's about a 2 mile round trip, and while two miles doesn't seem bad, I have to warn you, it was STEEP both down and up. Once at the lake, we went in the water, which was actually freezing. The boys cliff jumped but I have this huge fear of heights and so I just couldn't do it. When we were done swimming we went back to camp and just hung around the fire, talking, eating and drinking late into the night. In the morning we stopped at the lake one last time before heading back to Eugene. That morning, the sun was out and it made the lake look incredibly blue! We seriously couldn't believe how amazing the lake looked. On our way home we stopped at Toketee Falls. The original plan was to go swimming but it didn't look like there was a way down there from the viewpoint. I later learned that there was a make shift path that you could've hike down/slide down on your butt. Now I know for next time!
