Once I got home the next few days were spent eating at my favorite places and seeing loved ones (mostly both at the same time!) California has some the greatest food ever and so there are some places that I HAVE to visit every time I'm home (some are shown below). But lastly, I also used my few days at home to visit some breweries I had been wanting to visit for awhile. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make a San Diego beer trip like I planned but hopefully I'll get that chance when I fly home at the end of the summer.
If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you would see that I left California awhile ago and have actually been in D.C for over a week. I apologize for the late post but moving across the country, doing stuff for school and trying to see as many sites as possible before work started kept me very busy last week. Anyways, back to what I was trying to say...... After school ended, I drove back home to spend some time with family and friends before I flew across the country for the summer. I was excited and scared because I was going to be driving 10000 miles by myself! Despite my fear of having my car break down in the middle of nowhere, I tried to see this as an opportunity to do a road trip exactly the way I wanted it. I could stop wherever I wanted, see whatever I wanted and do whatever I wanted. That meant driving a bit out of the way to visit the famous Sierra Nevada Brewery and also taking the longer but more exciting route 101. Once I got home the next few days were spent eating at my favorite places and seeing loved ones (mostly both at the same time!) Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make a San Diego beer trip like I planned but hopefully I'll get that chance when I fly home at the end of the summer. Hello Mt. Shasta and hello California! Never thought I'd get the chance to visit this place! yay for solo road trips! Just some cool looking stuff around the brewery Breakfast in Santa Cruz means being able to look at beautiful California beaches Quick stop in Salinas to pay tribute to one of my favorite authors, John Steinbeck. It was his book, Travels with Charley that showed me it was possible to travel if you wanted to Second California brewery on my way home- Firestone Walker Brewing. The sours from their Barrelworks tasting room is seriously the stuff of gods! Steak salad and beer? Yes please! Right across the freeway from Firestone is a little known brewery called Figueroa Mountain. If you are ever in the area- DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE! LA food day! Every time I am home, one of my favorite places to go for dessert is Milk. They are most known for their amazing blue velvet cake (not shown), their delicious ice cream (coconut is my favorite), and their macaroon ice cream sandwiches! As you can see, the ice cream sandwiches are huge! and they're also pretty tasty! For weeks I had been craving an acai bowl but unfortunately Oregon doesn't exactly sell them anywhere. So when I met up with a friend in our college town, I knew exactly where to go- Banzai Bowl in Costa Mesa. I also couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit Sprinkles, aka the best cupcakes in the world. Give me a black and white cupcake with some milk any day! As a Mexican, I don't normally go out for Mexican food since we can usually make it at home. But when I do go out for Mexican at home, you can almost always guarantee it's La Casita Mexicana! The only thing I ever get is the chiles en nogada- a chile stuffed with meat, dried fruits, walnuts, candied cactus, pecan cream sauce, and pomegranate. Yum! Also, the traditional coffee is portably some of the best coffee I've ever had Belgian Waffles from Bruxie! I like this place because they are the closest thing to real Belgian waffles (at least the ones that I got as a present from a friend who went to Belgium). I also like the fact that they can make a hamburger using these waffles as bread (I know it sounds weird but, don't knock it till ya try it!) Just one of the many friends I got to see on this trip home. 10 years of friendship right here! Obligatory Bruery trip when you are in the area The coolest looking bathroom wall paper I've ever seen AHHHH YES! one of my absolute most favorite things to eat and probably the thing I have to eat when I'm home- Poke Burrito from Bear Flag in Newport Beach. Seriously, I had been dreaming about eating this burrito for weeks! Only about a year too late, but I finally got to visit this place And for once, I didn't have to beer taste alone while I was at home. These lovely ladies decided to join When your squad wants to be in your beerstagram Last California brewery until August!
