Once inside, I was able to tag along with the next brewery tour rather than wait the two hours everyone else had to wait. (Yay for traveling alone!). The best/worst part of the tour was seeing all of the Punkin Ale ready to be shipped out, but being unable to have any. After the tour, I sat around, eating and drinking beer in the taproom. Both the food and beer were AMAZING! But the beer...... oh. my. god. I have had Dogfish Head beer before, but it was just that much better at the brewery. I would consider moving to Delaware if it meant being able to live near the brewery and visit all the time. The delicious beer made it that much more difficult to part with the taproom, and if I didn't have to return the car that evening, I probably would've stayed until last call!. So overall, I would say my day in Delaware was one for the books. I hope that I one day I get to visit this much under appreciated state again, and hopefully for a longer period of time. Cheers!
When I learned I'd be spending the summer on the east coast, one of the things I was most excited about was being able to visit all of the east coast breweries. More specifically, I was excited to finally be able to visit Dogfish Head. For those of you who don't know, Dogfish is located in Milton, Delware, and it about a 2.5 hour drive from D.C. Because there is no public transportation or bus from D.C. to Dogfish, I had been trying to find another cheap way to visit them all summer. I ended up just sucking it up and renting a car.
I hadn't driven a car all summer and had never rented a car by myself before, so I was freaking out to the max when I got into the rental. I also forgot about the Saturday morning traffic leaving the city. What should've been a 2.5 hour drive, turned into about 3.5 hours, most of which was bumper to bumper! Ugh! But the feeling I got when I saw the sign for the brewery was indescribable. It was seeing the mothership, and any feelings of annoyance and anger instantly disappeared.
